Mavericks quiet The Thunder
Posted on May 22, 2011 at 12:46 AM.

The Dallas Mavericks continued their stellar post season performance by a renewed commitment to defense and a balanced attack on offense. Dirk delivered another clutch 4th quarter, scoring when they needed him to most. It shouldn't be a surprise to see this team play so well on the road. The have been doing it all year. They jumped all over OKC early and never looked back. Sure OKC climbed back into the game with minutes remaining but by then it was too little, too late. This game wasn't as close as the final score would indicate. The defense smothered Durant and Co. for most of the game. I still like the mavs chances of winning in 5. Congrats Mavs now go get 6 more and call it a day!!

Final score 93-87

Dallas leads series 2-1

Oh I love all of the mavs fans crawling out I'd the rock they're under for the past 5 years. I swear Dallas has the worst fair weather fans I've ever seen. No disrespect to you though because obviously I don't know you.

yeah you would think Dallas only had a football team lol

Whats up fellas. Yeah, they actually got three solid teams round here. Cows first, Mavs second and Rangers third. I like all three teams. Its kind of hard not to in DFW because they are always in the media and or doing events around town. As for being a fan me? No, not really. I just like local sports teams in general. I sleep well at night regardless. As far as being fair weather. Not sure. i do know the crowds in Dallas are rather unique.(lots of big hair and enhanced cosmetics going on)hint, hint.

Yeah I know I live in Dallas which is why it irks me every time I hear the media and fans get excited when the team succeeds. Every sport, mavs, cowboys, and rangers are known for choking in the post season or just in general, but when they win they like to rub it in everyone's face. When they lose, noone supports them or even talks about them besides badmouthing the teams.

+1 xbreezex. It's just like game 6 against the grizz, kd had a terrible game but I'd bet money he doesn't do it back to back. In fact I'd be terrified to play him after seeing what he did to Memphis in game 7.

Lets look at the other side of that coin. The Thunder continued to get a lot of foul calls, Dirk had an "off" night"(although he was still clutch in the fourth quarter) part of his shooting woes were that the refs were letting OKC "play" very, very, aggressive defense. This is Not like the griz series. The other problem with the Thunder is youth. They have Not been there, not done that. The Mavs can do what I like to call use a "veteran" move. In pick up ball you get these young cats that may be able to shoot, jump high and run fast. As a crafty veteran you use you mental awareness just as much *** you would being physical. That is why the Thunder will lose this series. It takes more than just superior talent to win championships. Personally, I think OKC is a two trick pony with Westbroke being the catalyst. He has to score for the Thunder to be effective. Durant needs to hit the weight room. he is just a skinny jumpshooter that doesn't play defense. He was getting pushed around and harassed all game and by much smaller players. I see more of the same in game four. Expect Dirk to get back on track and if Durant has a good game it won't really matter because Dallas has a better bench and they play better team defense. That's how I see it.

One other thing. Carlisle commented on the physical defense against Dirk. He called it borderline basically. Dirk will get to the line more in game four.

I don't doubt for one minute that Dallas is the better team, even without Caron butler. They are an old team though and this is one of their last shots, where as the thunder will get better every year. As far as being a "two trick pony" I believe they've shown their versatility. They can run the offense through Durant, Westbrook, and harden coming off the bench, the other players are defensive players. This series is up for grabs for anyone to take regardless of youth or veteran presence alike. When OKC goes 1 for 17 from beyond the arc, and still draws within two, with the best scorer in the NBA having a tough shooting night, and everyone else struggling, I wouldn't give the mavs too much credit. And I wouldn't question durance physicality, he has shown time in and out that he can be physical, he's always been built like a string bean but A "skinny jumpshooter"? He can score from anywhere on the court, which is why he is the leagues scoring leader for the past two years. That's like saying Kobe is a skinny jumpshooter from the baseline and all he can do is shoot turn around j's.

@Tmba This series is Not up for grabs. The Mavs proved that in game three. I stand by my valuation of Durant 100% Its funny how you say the thunder shot 1-17, drew within two and the mavs don't deserve the credit. Did you NOT see Dirk struggle as well. He had a terrible game, yet still found a way to win. I question Durants durability because he is a toothpick and it showed in the fourth quarter when he was getting pushed around like a rag doll by Marion, Kidd, JJ, Terry, Stoyakovic(lol). It doesn't matter if he is the leagues leading scorer. He is still overrated in "my" opinion. As for Kobe I could care less. The difference is Kobe DOES play defense. One of the best in the NBA.

Bro, I've been a loyal Mavs fan since I was born, and I can say, they're too many bandwagoners. I swear, people who didn't know what basketball was start saying how they were Mavs fans since 03...

Can I quote my own comments on here? lol Number 9 was brilliant on my part.

Hey Houndy,

Fans are fans. I'm all for anybody supporting a local team, bandwagon or not. I'm sure Cuban doesn't mind either.

You know your a Mavs fan, when you name your first born son after the the team name "Maverick"; and constantly relive the losing years of the early 80's to the late 90's. You also have pictures of Isiah Rider and Mark Maguire posted on your wall; but let's face it, know a days fans cheers for two - three teams as there "favourites", and when one team is doing better we all seem to smiles a bit more brighter! Let's face it, since the insertion of the free agency, and boat loads of money given out, it's hard for you to love your team as a die-hard, when in actual fact it is the one or two players that you really are smitten by and intrigues you to watch a whole season and "playoffs' if they take part in it.
Dallas has a great shot of reaching the finals; but the series is not over. OKC went to the playoffs and gave the Mighty Lakers a good scare last year.
As i have stated before @Andromada 1, the Thunder have great talent and it's up to the coaching staff to put them in the right position to win. We have seen what Westbrook can do under some type of control, and we have seen how Durant can score the baskets, they are a solid team defensively and need the "coaching" experience to get them over that hump to become an elite team in the NBA for years to come. Right now i give the knod to the Mavs and Rick Carisle for being in this type of situation before with two other teams, and that's why i don't see the Mavericks losing this series. Now if they reach the finals, that will be a whole different game as D-Wade and the Heat have won it all before; but not with Erick S. running the helm; but don't forget who is his boss; legendary Pat Riley!
Mavs vs Heat finals 2011 (prediction); it's now up to the players and who wants it more!
Cheers, Go Mavs!

Good Points Ruff. Good points. I'd pump the brakes on Durant though...He's good, but can be guarded by much smaller players because he has zero handles, zero strength, and his defense is about as bad as his missed dunk.....Unexcusable
